Community "Groups" feature (Ruby on Rails) -

Are there any good examples / plugins that are capable of creating users within community applications? For example, I would like to create a group class and add it to things like Communications Engine (essential), users should be able to create and manage groups that other users can join (like Facebook pages ). Thanks!
